de-criminalizing Young Women* of color

Transforming the systems that keep us stuck in cycles of poverty, violence, and incarceration.

Change The world

We meet OUR People where they are at

On the streets, in jail and detention centers, and in their schools, neighborhoods, and communities. Together, we build our personal and collective power, heal from trauma, advocate on behalf of ourselves and our sisters, and work to transform the conditions, systems, and policies that lead to intergenerational cycles of violence, incarceration, and poverty.

01. leadership

We are powerful beyond measure.  Our experiences, our stories, and our sisterhood make us powerful. Through our programs and the Sister Warriors Freedom Coalition we recognize, engage, and support our inherent leadership.

02. research

We conduct our own research and document our own solutions - examining the intersections of race, poverty, violence/ trauma, education, housing, and involvement in the child welfare and juvenile/ criminal systems.

03. advocacy

Utilizing our Bill of Rights as our North Star, we develop, support, and organize around the implementation of policies to de-criminalize and de-carcerate cis and trans women, girls, and gender non-conforming folks of color in California.

*We all have the right for our gender to be respected and the right to be free from limiting conceptions of masculinity and femininity. At Young Women's Freedom Center we are inclusive of all cis and trans women, non-binary, and gender non-conforming folks.

Join the Coalition!

The Sister Warriors Freedom Coalition is a membership base of incarcerated, formerly incarcerated, and system-involved women, girls, and gender non-forming folks. Together, we work to transform the laws and systems that have caused us harm.

Formed in 2017 and unified by the Bill of Rights, the Coalition provides members opportunities to come together with networking, education, emotional support, and paid opportunities to take leadership in the movement.

Have you ever been incarcerated or IDENTIFY AS "SYSTEM-INVOLVED?"
