Ending Incarceration of Girls in Santa Clara County

Building off of 25 years of expertise creating alternatives to incarceration for girls and gender non-conforming justice-involved youth, Young Women’s Freedom Center is now expanding into Santa Clara County. Grounded in the larger context of ending incarceration of girls in Santa Clara County, YWFC will create alternatives to incarceration for justice-involved girls, create leadership and economic opportunities, provide healing opportunities, and advance the leadership of young women and girls most impacted by juvenile justice to develop our own solutions.
Policy

Bill of Rights

The Bill of Rights for System Involved Women and Girls is our collective and radical vision. Developed by over 200 formerly incarcerated and system involved cis and trans women, girls, and gender non-conforming folks at the first ever Sister Warriors Freedom Coalition in Oakland, CA, the Bill of Rights has become our North Star. All of YWFC’s advocacy and organizing work and the work of the Sister Warriors Freedom Coalition is guided by the Bill of Rights and we will not stop until we have realized this vision.

San Francisco

SF Reimagine Justice

San Francisco Reimagine Justice is a community organizing campaign to stop the criminalization of black and brown youth in San Francisco that is centered on young women, girls, and gender non-conforming youth and their families. Black and brown youth and their families are impacted by incarceration, the foster care system, homelessness, unemployment, and lack of resources. Black youth are 4 times more likely to be arrested in San Francisco than any other county in California and San Francisco spends $100,000 per year to keep one youth on probation and over $300,000 to keep one youth incarcerated. SF Reimagine Justice is a campaign led by youth and their families most impacted to transform San Francisco and reinvest funding back into the communities and youth most impacted and away from criminalization and incarceration.
