The Young Women’s Freedom Center is a Leadership and Advocacy organization focussed on building the personal and collective power of cis and trans young women and gender non conforming folks that have been incarcerated and experienced life on the streets.  YWFC creates opportunities for young folks to find their voice,  build their power,  gain skills and opportunities, and to transform the conditions that keep them trapped in cycles of violence, poverty, and incarceration.

Young Women’s Freedom Center is seeking someone with a strong commitment to working alongside young women and girls and TGI (Trans, Gender Variant, and Intersex) youth of color as they navigate the justice system and or the underground street economy. The ideal candidate:

• Has experience with the juvenile or criminal justice system, foster care and/or underground street economy.
• Resides in or previously lived in San Francisco (ideally Bayview/Hunters Point, Visitacion Valley/Sunnydale, Mission/Excelsior).
• Has the ability to travel to various neighborhoods and communities via public transportation.
• Has a deep belief in the power and leadership of system involved women and girls and TGI youth.
• Has a conscious and well thought out practice of working in partnership with young people.
• Has the ability to communicate verbally and written with multiple people from social services and business sectors that have the power to impact the lives of women and girls and TGI youth.
• Is knowledgeable of San Francisco and Alameda County communities of color.
• Has the ability to speak boldly and powerfully with systems employees and gatekeepers in ways that positively impact the way young women, girls, and TGI youth navigate the system

Program Coordinator Youth Detention and Reentry key duties:

• Facilitate weekly workshops for young women and TGNC youth in detention in San Francisco, and as required; Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa counties and the greater bay area, based on need and organizational priority.
• Meet with youth in detention for 1-1 meetings to conduct intakes, reentry and self determination planning to increase youth’s ability to navigate out of systems.
• Conduct court-based advocacy on a weekly basis leading advocacy efforts, engaging with probation, public defenders, social workers, and or judges as needed to reduce incarceration of young women and increase participation in YWFC as an alternative to incarceration.
• Maintain and strengthen relationships with staff of organizations working with participants, including, but not limited to Probation Departments, Public Defender's, community-based agencies, School districts, Social Workers, etc. Develop and maintain relationships with organizations, service providers, stakeholders, etc. that work with and or support young women and ensure leadership staff are aware of program partners.
• Facilitate weekly circles that support young women with the reentry process that proves to be an alternative to incarceration in San Francisco as required; Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa counties and the greater bay area, based on need and organizational priority.
• Engage regularly with young women to ensure that leadership and self determination plans are current and relevant, that participants are connecting to and receiving needed support services, progress is being made on goals, and participants are leading their own lives and systems navigation.
